Article Focus:
The results of the First Annual Creative COW International Music Video Competition.

There's an old saying that music is the international language and the proof can be found among the entries in the First Annual Creative COW International Music Video Competition. We were delighted to find 327 entries made in this international competition that left the guns at home, and didn't involve body counts -- well, other than in a few goth and metal videos.

Yes, there were the entries you'd expect from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, Brazil, Italy and France. But many of the most exciting entries came from teams working in countries that many westerners don't normally associate with cutting-edge music videos.

Some excellent contest entries hailed from countries like some of the Arab League nations, Russia, Argentina, Israel, Latvia, Romania, Malta, and many others. The Latin world seemed especially creative this year and won the contest and also had many other top-ranked videos. It seemed that daily we were adding another flag to the database to "flag" the entries coming in.

The Grand Prize winner (above), from Brazil, was created by Eduardo Souza and Rodrigo Lima of PAVE Gastronomia Visual for Os Paralamas do Successo, one of Brazil's most famous rock bands.

The $1,000 cash grand prize went to Eduardo Souza and Rodrigo Lima of the PAVE Gastronomia Visual team in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The audience kept this one high in the voting the entire contest. We also gave away a prize of $500 to the reviewer who penned the most insightful reviews.

That prize went to Jim Hines of Atlanta, Georgia. Our congratulations to the winners and to all of the entrants. It was a great contest and it seemed that every day a new video had the team in the COW offices emailing and talking between ourselves about the newest and hottest piece of work coming in from all over the globe.

First runner-up -- and a huge COW office favorite among the staff -- was 'Raise the Dead' by Colin Devlin. The video was created by Sebastian Lopez in Argentina, who has worked with Colin Devlin on previous projects, as well.

If this year's entries are any indication of things to come, the Creative COW International Music Video Competition is off to a great start and we look forward to seeing how the contest grows in the years ahead.
