The Creative COW has been especially busy lately! Let me take a few moments to catch you up on some of what's happening.
We've brought back our popular
news podcast. The Creative COW's Red Hot Round-up of news, views and more is now on the air, thanks to Keith Larsen and Alan Spaulding. We've known them for years and were listening to their energetic, intelligent, and funny podcasts from NAB NY, and it made us think of NPR's "Car Talk" radio show. The two shows share a similar witty banter that somehow manages to still deliver top quality information. We knew they'd be a perfect fit for The COW podcast, and they are. Be sure to visit
www.CreativeCOW.net/podcasts to subscribe.
Amazingly, while the news podcast was on an extended hiatus between episodes, as we looked for the perfect new host, you never let it slip much below #50 in the iTunes Top 100 tech podcasts. That's astonishing and a tribute to the strength of the COWmunity. Aanarav Sareen's
Premiere Pro podcast continues to climb up the iTunes rankings, as high as the 30s recently. Congratulations, Aanarav!
We're also rolling out a new
Final Cut Pro podcast with Ben Scott. We're sure you'll help it to join our other podcasts in the iTunes ratings.
Our very highest-rated podcast is Aharon Rabinowitz's
After Effects podcast. It lives in the iTunes Top 10 to 20 in Software-How-Tos, and is regularly featured in the iTunes Music Store. Last month, Aharon's AE podcast celebrated its first anniversary at The COW! He's never missed a week, either. It's free but is every bit as good as AE training products that you pay for.
We frequently get asked when we'll release a DVD of Aharon's podcasts so that people can have all of them in one place, as full-sized movies. The answer is very soon, so stay tuned! Speaking of DVDs,
Serious Effects & Compositing Volume 2 - the latest edition of Andrew Kramer's advanced techniques for After Effects - is now being printed. Volume 1 is among the best-selling After Effects DVDs ever, selling thousands of units. As with all good sequels, we expect the second to be even bigger. For more details, and to see his other product titles, visit creativecow.net/ andrewkramer.
Still speaking of DVDs, we have seen files and elements from Serge Hamad's "
InvigoMany" used in many sportscasts recently,. This Creative COW Master Series title was designed for broadcast designers under tight deadlines, and it's obviously working.
Please join us as we welcome
Bob Zelin to the Cow Team! Bob is one of the industry's true giants. From the earliest days of online communities, Bob has set himself apart from the blowhards by mixing his strong opinions with humor, and by backing up his strong opinions with hard facts.
Bob has a long career of configuring systems for some of the industry's highest-profile users - setting up major production facilities for everyone from TV stations to theme parks. On PC and Mac, with Apple and Avid, he's learned to see through the hype.
Bob has been contributing to the Creative COW with online articles and posts to communities like
AJA and others. This issue sees his print debut with his advice on building a modern professional editing room. We know you'll agree that he's also a terrific writer whose energy and experience jumps off the page at you. Expect to see more from him, in print and online, and to hear his unmistakable voice in the COW's podcasts.
The COW is also remodeling to serve you better in 2007, so we've gotten some help. All of them are people we have worked with and know well, so we couldn't be happier.
First, we've been rejoined by Rob Elder, who helped us roll out our original site nearly 12 years ago. He left to work on some major engineering projects but returns in his new role as Senior Engineering Director. His considerable problemsolving prowess will be a great asset to the COW in the days ahead.
Tim Wilfong has also come aboard as our new Systems Administration Director. A decade or so ago, Tim saved our original site from oblivion. Ron later returned the favor by lending his marketing expertise to Tim, who built and sold an ISP that is today a part of Earthlink. Tim is one of the sharpest server administrators in the country and we are proud to have him as a part of the COW Team.
We are hard at work with Rob and Tim, as well as longtime cowhand Eric Blis, to complete the building of the new Cow for 2007. Watch for big changes very soon.
