| Cinematography Review at Creative COW | AATON PENELOPE 35MM AND DIGITAL CAMERA
Later that same day, Mitch returned with what I believe to be the entire hardware development team for the Aaton Penelope, the hybrid 2-perf & 3-perf 35mm film and digital camera concept.
The Penelope offers its users the unique ability to shoot with 35mm film (no -- film is not dead), and then in a few brief minutes, convert the same camera into a fullscale, true 4K digital camera. A drop-in data capture module with a Dalsa sensor fits into the space where the film mag has been removed. You can shoot 35mm film in the morning, and use the same camera to shoot 4K digital in the afternoon. Penelope also offers the ability to select from conventional frame rates, while also offering adjustments from 3-40 fps in .001 frame steps, useful when computer screens or digital signs cause sync issues when being photographed.
