NAB 2011 proved to be "the best NAB Show in years." That's what we heard from many Creative COW members as they reported from the show. We carefully reviewed their reports and bring to you your choices, the Blue Ribbon Award winners for Nab Show 2011.

NAB 2011 proved to be "the best NAB Show in years." That's what we heard from many Creative COW members as they reported from the show. Final audience numbers released exceeded 88,000. Many exhibitors told us that the quality of the audience was quite good and while the final tally was off NAB's high-water mark of over 118,000 from a decade ago, the level of the audience was higher than that of a decade ago. Exhibitors also told us that attendees came ready to buy -- and did.

NAB 2011 was a pro's show, tire kickers were at the auto show across town.

When we launched Creative COW Magazine at NAB 2006, our first issue included an article by Jason Howard entitled, "What's Cutting Edge in Hollywood Today, Will Be In Your Hands Tomorrow." In his article, Jason looked at tools then used in the highest end broadcast and film studios, tools that users in the "middle market" could expect to be using in the years ahead. Many of his predictions were exactly the kind of innovations "reaching down to the middle market" at this year's NAB Show.

Not even Apple's much ballyhooed FCPX teaser could steal all the thunder when faced with ground breaking announcements from companies like Blackmagic Design, Quantel, RED and many others who came ready to change the world -- and did.

A decade ago, it was Apple and Avid at the front of the hall "duking it out" in a battle for software supremacy. This year, at the front of the hall it was Grass Valley and Blackmagic Design in a battle of hardware, with powerful tools and cutting edge workflows now priced for middle market studios.

NAB Show 2011 introduced many important tools that will be instrumental in rewriting the future of media production, and we've pulled together many of them in this issue.

Our apologies if this issue comes to you a bit later than you might have expected. It takes us a bit longer to figure out who the Blue Ribbon winners will be because we disqualify ourselves from the voting, relying on our members to sift through all of the news, announcements, releases, and tell us what really matters after the smoke has cleared and the lights die down.

We gave a little extra time to this process this year, as so many new things took an introductory bow at NAB 2011 and our members carefully deliberated their lasting importance on our forums. They tell us what will succeed and who the winners are. The Blue Ribbon Awards are unique because they are driven by our members who are spending their money for things that will make their professional world better and give them a competitive edge.

So, here they are, Creative COW Magazine's Blue Ribbon Award winners for NAB Show 2011.
