Panasonic Solutions Co., a division of Panasonic Corporation of North America, is now shipping the AJ-PCD30 P2 drive, a new three-slot P2 device that enables super-fast offloads from a P2 card. Enabled by the USD 3.0 standard, the new device achieves offloading of AVC-Intra 100 or DVCPRO HD content at more than 12X real-time.
"The AJ-PCD30 can be part of a super fast P2 workflow," says Panasonic Product Manager Steve Cooperman. "For example, when using a Windows PC with a USB 3.0 connection and simple RAID configuration, you can offload three fully loaded 64GB E-Series P2 Cards in under15 minutes. This super fast, 12x real-time transfer can significantly improve the speed of your P2 workflow."
"And even offload to PC's without RAID drives can be up to 4x real-time," he adds. "This allows your customer to offload a single 64GB E-Series P2 Card in about 14 minutes."
The Panasonic AJ-PCD30 accelerates the post production workflow by making content available to nonlinear editing systems and servers from up to three P2 cards simultaneously. More specifically, with three 64GB P2 cards, the new Panasonic device offers immediate access to more than three hours of AVC-Intra 100 or DVCPRO HD, or more than six hours of AVC-Intra 50 or DVCPRO50 content.

The PCD30 can be used externally or be installed in the five-inch bay of a Windows-based desktop for use as a built-in reader. It is both compatible with Windows and Macintosh operating systems, and backward compatible with the USB 2.0 standard. It also supports all P2 frame rates and formats.
"All the features of the AJ-PCD30 make it a great match for ENG, reality TV, long-form and those types of production that shoot a large amount of P2 content," says Cooperman. "This model can substantially increase workflow speed, thereby increasing efficiency and lowering their post-production costs."
Weighing approximately 2.6 pounds, the AJ-PCD30 measures 5-7/8 inches wide by 1-11/16 inches high by 7-7/8 inches deep. Transfer speeds are dependent on computer, network, drive configuration, file size being transferred, application software and P2 card version. The AJ-PCD30 P2 drive has a suggested list price of $2,255; a USB 3.0 cable is not included.
